Brigadeiro is a typical Brazilian sweet, also known as negrinho, similar to the traditional chocolate truffles. It is made as a ganache in which condensed milk is used instead of cream and cocoa powder instead of fondant chocolate, but later we will see the recipe.
History has it that the Brigadeiro owes its name to the Brazilian Air Force Brigadier general, Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes, famous for putting an end to a communist rebellion in Rio de Janeiro in the 1920s.
To honor Brigadeiro Gomes, it was decided to produce candy. However, the prized fruits and nuts they usually consumed were unavailable because of the war. Coincidentally, Nestlé introduced its brand and products such as cocoa powder or condensed milk. From their merger, they obtained this candy that has become very popular because it is easy to make and a delight to the palate.
Brigadeiros are now popular traditional sweets. Of course, there are different versions of their elaboration. However, any of them is very simple to make and very easy to enjoy. Below we will show you the recipe for brigadeiros, and you will let us know if they become one of your favorite sweets.
For this recipe, I used:
· Sweetened condensed milk
· Lindt 100% unsweetened cocoa
· Butter, unsalted
· Vanilla extract
· Salt
· Coconut flakes
· Sprinkles
· Dry fruit
· Chocolate shaves
· Walnuts
Overall, I believe everything went well in this recipe. The flavor and texture of the truffles came out as expected, and they were delicious. The main challenge was to get the right texture of the truffle paste, but I got there through time and stirred the mix patiently.

Once the paste is done, I recommend spraying oil on your hand to manage it well and get a nice round shape. All you must do is take a small amount of paste, quantities vary depending on how big you want your truffle, and shape it with your hands, creating a nice round ball.

Then I added the toppings. I used sugar sprinkles, chocolate shaves, dry mixed fruits, walnuts in small pieces, and coconut flakes. You can get creative here and mix and add as many varieties of toppings as you wish.
In the end, making Brigadeiros is a versatile and easy recipe. It can also be adapted in different ways, so I believe it is an excellent addition to a bakery, or to a sweet menu at your home.
